  1. you will first need to know which airport you will be flying into London. There is Heathrow and Gatwick. Next, the best bet is to go to the major airline websites and find the lowest fare that way. This is what I did when I flew to London. I have been 3 times and flew out of 3 differ national airports. Once from Chicago, Houston, and NYC it wasn't my choice it is what the airline had scheduled to fly from. Hope this helps!

  2. Don't be lazy. Check a website and do it yourself.

  3. The cost can vary tremendously based on which airport you depart from, when you are traveling, and how long you are staying. Traveling in the middle of summer will be far more expensive than traveling in the middle of winter. It is far more expensive to travel next week than it is in three weeks due to advance purchase requirements for discounts.  The length of your trip can be a factor. Even the day of the week that you fly on can make a difference. In short, no one can answer your question due to lack of information.

Depending on which major airport you live near, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit, or Chicago may work out better for price than your closest airport - if you live within driving distance of any of those.

Just go to any airfare shopping site and try some different combinations of dates and departure airports. The easiest way to do it is on Kayak.com. It shops many different airline and third-party websites and consolidates the fares in one screen. It's much faster and easier than looking at many individual websites.
