Planet scale model?

Well, i have only 2 wishes this summer apart from seeing a shothing star i want to build my own scale model of the solar system by using fimo! Can somebody help me with the scales, colours and info about planets and other facts i should know to build this model or maybe another material good to make this model? Thanks alot i will choose the best answer a quick a possible so 10 pts 4 u !!! GOD BLESS

  3. That is a really good wish. Okay, If I were you here is what I would do. I would do a little background research on the planes (if you want to include pluto you can). I would find the size, color and position. I will list them for you:

    Sun: diameter- 864,944 miles (850,000)

    Mercury: diameter- 3,032 miles (3,000)

    Venus: diameter- 7,520 miles (7,500)

    Earth: diameter- 7,918 miles (8,000)

    Earth's Moon: diameter- 2,158 miles (2,000)

    Mars: diameter- 4,212 miles (4,000)

    Jupiter: diameter- 86,882 miles (85,000)

    Saturn: diameter- 72,368 miles (70,000)

    Uranus: diameter- 31,518 miles (30,000)

    Neptune: diameter- 30,602 miles (30,000)

    Pluto: diameter- 1,484 miles (1,500)

    You can find the colors of the planets and even include rings in the ones that have them. Most colors are solid.

    Foam is a good material to make out of but if you want it to last longer you can make it out of clay or even playdo (even though it is a bit childish, you can easily make a colorful planet). So, now the scales. Lets say 1 inch equals 21,250 miles. This way Jupiters diameter would be 4 inches.

    Scales

    Sun: of course you cannot make this to scale because if Jupiter was 4 inches thant he sun would be 3 feet. So make it 4-5 inches.

    Mercury: mercury is small and would be .14 inches, so lets round it up to 1/2 inch.

    Venus: it would be .35 inches so lets round it to 3/4 inch.

    Earth: The same, 3/4.

    Earth's Moon: 1/4 inch or 6/18 inch

    Mars: 1/2 inch (rounded)

    Jupiter: 4 inches

    saturn: # 1/4 inches

    Uranus: 1.5 inches

    Neptune: same, 1.5 inches.

    Pluto: so small that it is probably not even worth it. 1/4 inch.

    This might seem small but you can make each bigger by one inch, or two inch or so on. Now for the distances between them. (every measurment from sun) ( from outside of sun to outisde of planet.)

    Mercury: 1.5 inches

    Venus: 3 inches

    Earth: 4 1/4 inches.

    Moon: 1/2 inch from Earth

    Mars: 5 1/2 inches

    Jupiter: 7 inches

    Saturn: 14 inches

    Uranus: 18 inches

    Neptune: 21 inches

    Pluto: FAR AWAY!

    Or if this doesn't work jsut have them equally spaced.

    You can use pipe cleaners to attach them to the sun. Hope this helped. :)

    Also, for shooting stars. Look up online meteor showers and you can find some dates when there will be TONS or just a few shooting stars. Good Luck :)

Calculate the scale factor for each of the planets and the Sun by dividing the actual diameter by 10,000., I did a couple for you so you get the idea and I listed the size of the planets and sun, you will need to look up their orbital distances to the sun...( if this is too big for you try 20 000 etc) Record your results in the table Pluto and Earth have been filled in for you. Your models of the planets and Sun will be one billion times smaller than the actual size. Notice that the actual diameters are measured in kilometers; your scale diameters are in centimeters.

    Use your material of choice to create spheres with diameters that are close in size to the diameters you calculated for each planet. .I would use a balloon and coat it in paper machee for the sun due to size... inflate your balloon to the approximate calculated size of the Sun. Position the models in correct order from the Sun, simulating the orbits of the planets.

    You will need a different scale for distance unfortunately because your house is not big enough to do it otherwise..
