I'm looking for one of those self watering probes/glass balls whatever they are called. I'm going on vacation for like 1 1/2 weeks and I need something that will water my plants adequately while I'm gone. Which store (in Columbus, Ohio) can I find these? I don't want to order them online and I want to buy about 5-6 of them. Thanks!!

  1. Any size soda bottle with an 1/8 inch hole drilled in the cap will work. Those on sale at the box stores are cute but don't hold a spits worth of water. Fill the bottle with water and tip it upside down in a shallow hole you can make with your finger. I find nooks and crannies on the floor to help balance the bottle and it's cooler and darker down there which slows the plants metabolism. Practice with a couple different sized holes and bottle sizes if you have time to experiment. If you have a few very thirsty plants, set them in the bathtub in an inch of water and close the door or curtain. I don't travel like I used to but I use a similar technique with melons in the garden using 5 gal. oil containers from restaurants. Have a good trip..  RScott

  2. wallgreen's sells them, and I thing they're on sale right now!
