  1. Suspended animation.

  2. Went throgh a wormhole or somthing and time travelled

  3. This is where one mutters "Convenient plot twist."  There's really no scientific, plausible, explanation.

In the first movie version (1968) the astronauts use suspended animation and the theory of relativity (faster you go, slowing time passes) to make their voyage. That movie ends with the discovery that the planet of apes is earth.

The second movie (2001) takes place in the solar system. "Somehow" the hero ends up on a future earth. Then he travels back (somehow) to where it's the right time but the apes are still in charge.

There was an easily forgettable TV series (it lasted 3 months) where they never got off the planet.

The book (1963) ends with the hero landing back on earth and an official coming to greet him. Turns out it's a gorilla.

If you need something more then "Convenient plot twist."  how about. "By Pluto (1968 version, Jupiter for the 2001) there's a small, massive black hole. As it connects to a wormhole through time and space, it's invisible to instruments. The spacecraft is captured by the black hole but instead of being torn apart, is sucked into the wormhole to emerge in the same sport 700 years later. Going the other way, the process is repeated in reverse"

  4. I don't know !  You'll have to ask an Evolutionist, they have all the answers. LOL
