Planting string beans?

I have a big string bean plant that grows giant string beans. Sometimes I don't get to the beans in time and they get woody and hard. I took a few beans out of the core and want to know how to plant them. Do you need to wait for them to dry before you plant them or not.

if your plant is a hybrid the seeds will be no good

let the pods wither on the plant and then after they are dry they will be ready to plant

If you let them go too long and cannot eat the pods and the beans are still "green"....soft..., you can eat the beans inside. Shell them and cook them up in a bit of water, drain and serve with butter (anything tastes good with butter.)  Or you can let the pods go until they are dry, the use the beans inside like dry beans.......soak and then cook like Navy beans, pinto beans, kidney beans, etc.  

They must be dry, completely dry before they become seed beans........and yes, often they need time to mature chemically inside before the will germinate again.  Hence the wait over winter.  Store in paper, not plastic and keep in a cool, dark place.
