Question:

Playboy merchandise?

Hi,

I'm interested in why so many parents let their young daughters (in some cases very young, but even up to teenage years) buy Playboy merchandise (with the bunny logo). It is extremely popular right now and you can buy almost everything with the logo - bedspreads, clothes, pencil cases etc. I have seen questions on here from parents asking advice on how to decorate their child's room with a Playboy theme.

Are parents not concerned that Playboy is considered soft p**n? Do they realise what it represents and if they do, do they just not care? Are they happy for their daughters to buy into something which encourages the sexual objectification of women for men? Why is it so popular - I don't get it!

Really interested on everyones opinions about this.

  1. I have no idea where you are from and what kind of people you have around you but I have never, ever seen a child with anything "playboy" on it. Sorry.

  2. There must be a lot of idiot parents out there. That gets me started on little girls' clothes. More Grandpas should take their granddaughters clothes shopping. Then we'd see what kind of S****y stuff sells!

  3. i agree you are so right

  4. I see teenagers wearing it but I never see little girls wearing it. when I was a teen I always wanted to wear some of those clothes but my dad would never let me now that I'm a parent I understand I think the clothes are extremely trashy I will never let my daughter wear those things. I think some people want their kids to be able to express them selves just like the parents who let their kids dye their hair 30 different colors and wear black lipstick.I don't get it either.

  5. its disgusting and ridiculous. if parents dont understand the message that the symbol brings than they r idiots! i would NEVER let my daughter wear, or own anything with that logo. being a lady nowadays is truly going out of style and its sad. as the mother of a 5 momth old girl, i plan to be very strict about certain things, such as this, liitle girls are too s**y too soon!

  6. Since women are not really good for anything except looking pretty, I think starting a young girl off with Playboy merchandise is a fine idea.

  7. My daughter is 17 and she loves the LOGO. she does know what it means, but that is not why she likes  it. she likes the bunny. I dont have a problem with it. I have no issues with the Logo.

As for the soft p**n and the sexual objectification...that is part of life and not just Playboy!

EDIT**Boy only 5 thumbs down. I guess its a good thing I didnt mention that my daughters first tattoo was the playboy bunny tattoo on her hip. (she has 7!)

  8. I completely agree!! There is no way in the world my daughter will wear playboy (until shes 18, and at that point - she has the right to make her own choices and decisions, within reason).  The other problem i have, is hearing all these lil girls Jamming out on the radio, and making requests for songs that totally Objectify them and degrade them as human beings.  Are they not listening to the lyrics?

How many questions do you see a day on Y!A with these teeny boppers talking about allowing their male classmates to grab their behinds, feel them up, and basically treat them like meat instead of human beings - and than follow it up with "I dont mind, i like the attention" OH HEAVENS NO!

I worry about what i'm bringing my daughter into (36wks pregnant), and i have this unusual compulsion to smack other peoples children for acting ignorant and S****y because its the popular thing to do.
