Player Rejects Disc

Question

My player rejects DVD's all the time,sometimes the display shows disc error sometimes the player just rejects them outright, these are mostly hire DVD'S. When it does accept them there are nearly always big jumps while watching ,very annoying. I'd be grateful for any advice Thanks
