I have a 20gallon cycled tank with 3 fancy guppies and 6 neon tetras. I just got the newest guppy from walmart about 2 weeks ago. I fed them today and noticed my fancy guppy pectoral fin is gone and his anal fin looks all chewed up. Why could this be happening? Can guppies be harmful to one another? I have several guppies in there and none of them have had any problems with their fins. Now my guppy is only staying at the top of the aquarium and just swimming frantically! I feel so bad for him, he looks like he's near death or something. What can i do to help him? The only other tank i have is a 1 gallon empty fish bowl and a 5 gallon tank with a betta in it. Can anyone help me out, any answers will be appriciated greatly!

Thanks

  1. Well, neon tetras tend to nip a lot unless they are in very big schools. If you get 10 neons in all that might help. Also, bettas attack fish that look like bettas, and since the guppy has long flowing fins and are colorful, so the betta would attack him.

  2. i would put him in your 1 gallon empty fish bowl and put a treatment in there called anti fungus and finrot made by interpet even tho he doesnt have this infection but eventually he would as his fins and dorsal fin have been eaten it is wise to do this  i found that having fish for 20 years its best to have neons in bigger groups to stop nipping against other fish hope this helps u out and good luck
