Please help! ITUNES PROBLEM?

Question

Okay, Our Computer Just got its harddrive wiped free of everything. Before that, My sister and I saved our iTunes libraries both on her iPod (I have an iPod touch so I couldn't use mine.) Now, I got all of the songs uploaded on the computer but about 1/4 of them have those annoying little exclamation points! Please help me figure something out to save my music. Oh, And I'm not too technical so please be as "dumb" as possible when providing an answer to my question. Thank you! :D

what you can do is simply delete all the songs on itunes that have the little ! marks next to them. then, if you know where the folders and files of your songs are (in the computer), then all you have to do is go into itunes and select FILE and click "Add file to Library" (which means that you will look for the music file (song) on your computer one by one and itunes will add it in itunes) or click "Add folder to Library" (which means that if all your songs are in one folder, all you do is find that folder on your computer and itunes will add all the songs in that folder to itunes)

I know where your coming from.  I myself have had the "Pleasure" of dealing with the annoying exclamation marks.

First of all, when an exclamation mark appears on your Itunes library, it means that Itunes is unable to find the source file of your song.  In other words, sometime after you imported the songs into your Itunes library the initial file was moved or deleted.

I could be wrong, but I believe the only way of fixing this problem is to either re-import the songs that have the nasty little exclamation marks next to them or place the source files back into their origonal location, if they were moved.

I'm sorry I could not be as much help, I do believe I would be able to supply a more "suiting" answer if I had a little bit more information.  When you imported your libraries off of your sister's ipod, did you first copy the files to your computer? If you didn't, Itunes may be looking for the source files on your sisters ipod, which is not always connected to the computer, thus revealing the exclamation marks.

i think it's because when your harddrive was cleaned out, so were all of your music files, unless you redownloaded them, the computer can't find them and sync them onto your ipod.

just make sure that all the files are saved on your harddrive before adding them to ipod
