what are all of the literary devices used in this poem????

PLEASE HELP ME ???!?

thank you!

The sunlight on the garden

Hardens and grows cold,

We cannot cage the minute

Within its nets of gold;

When all is told

We cannot beg for pardon.

Our freedom as free lances

Advances towards its end;

The earth compels, upon it

Sonnets and birds descend;

And soon, my friend,

We shall have no time for dances.

The sky was good for flying

Defying the church bells

And every evil iron

Siren and what it tells:

The earth compels,

We are dying, Egypt, dying

And not expecting pardon,

Hardened in heart anew,

But glad to have sat under

Thunder and rain with you,

And grateful too

For sunlight on the garden.

  1. You have an interesting rhyme scheme that I like.  The first and last lines in each stanzas rhyme.  The 2nd, 4th, and 5th rhyme together, while the 3rd line stands alone, except for in the first and second stanza.  I like the connection with the first and last stanza with the "pardon/garden" rhymes.

    You have allegories, which are extended metaphors, meaning you use gardening as a reference for growing up and maturing.  You have internal rhyming in the third stanza with the "iron/siren", which is a sound rhyme.  Your choice of stanzas is very unique, but I like it a lot.

    What kind of poem is this supposed to be?  Is it supposed to be like an ode or a lament?  Are you thinking about publishing this?

    Have you ever thought of taking a creative writing workshop?  When I was in  college, the English department had a summer seminar, dedicated to writing and selling literature.  There are also coffeehouses in your area that have nights dedicated to workshopping poems.  Attend a couple of them.  You will get a lot of input from so many people.

    Your poem is excellent.  Take it to a poetry reading and find out what people think.  You will get tons of advice from fellow poets.  Give it a shot.  No guts, no glory!

    I hope my interpretation helps you out  a bit.  Take care.

    Many Blessings, BGJR.
