Can you please give three reasons why a fishes’ gill is well adapted to functioning as a gaseous exchange surface?

  1. Here are three:

    1) Gills are made of filaments which help increase surface area for oxygen exchange.

    2) A countercurrent exchange system is employed to enhance the diffusion of substances in and out of the gill, with blood and water flowing in opposite directions to each other.

    3) Fish utilize the gills for the excretion of electrolytes

    Thanks for the question, it helps keep my brain some-what sharp as the summer roles on. I also like to think of it as a challenge. Hope I passed, lol.

    shouldnt this be in biology or something?

    it is well adapted because it has to be for the fish to be alive. oh, you probably mean technical reasons. lol
