  1. Contesting a ticket is not considered a lawsuit.

Calling the local county courthouse or circuit court clerk's office will get you the answers you need in terms of fees.  Each county is different.

  2. No.  You aren't suing, you are disputing a ticket.  If you filed charges or for damages you would then be suing.

You won't have to pay court costs or for the policeman to go to court.  Chances are he won't be there, they usually have one cop who does the court scene.

  3. When you contest a ticket in court, the only additional fee that you will pay is a "court fee". This fee will differ on jurisdiction and the clerk of the court should be able to explain the fee to you.

You will not have to pay the police officer's overtime for attending, his dept will do that.

Contesting a ticket is also not the same as suing someone. Suing him would be a civil issue and a separate issue to the ticket.

    Good luck.
