I was wondering how i could set up a rescue centre for unwanted, ill, lame, horses. ive wanted to do it since i could remember all because i was at a riding school and a lame horse was being sent to the meat market, she was putting up such a fight she didnt want to go it choked me to think that a supposed horse lover would do such a thing. I was only young at the time so it really effected me and since then all ive ever wanted is to have a 'safe heaven' i am now 17 and obviously i cant get it started in 5mins but would like to know how to start planning ahead, i am sure this is what i want to do with my life as i cannot think of anything else that i want to do. ive already been to college nothing has jumped out at me. i cant seem to find my vocation. any help would be appericiated obviously there are going to be some A$$holes that will put stupid answers

  1. Well, you've accomplished the most important part of this - you have a goal!

This will take a few years to materialise though - unless you win the lottery or come into a lot of money!  You need to work out what you need, to be able to run your own business.

You will need skills in an office, know how to run a successful rescue centre, etc.  It sounds like you know how to look after horses, so that is one thing you can cross off the list.

Start a list of all the skills you will require, what you already possess, and what you could delegate to others.  Then, try to work out how much it would cost to run such a place.  Speak to the RSPCA, or any other local rescue type centres.  They will have major overheads and a lot of their funding will come from fundraising.

What will you be able to get in the way of grants?  Do you have any business people who would be willing to sponsor you?

There is a lot to take into consideration, but I hope I've given you some food for thought.  I applaud your enthusiasm - don't let anyone tell you it can't be done.  They are the ones who are afraid to do things - you are the brave one!!

    GOOD LUCK!

  2. Take it to Dragons Den.

  3. have you got premises with lots of land thats what you will need more than anything

  4. In most animal rescue, there isn't much money to be made as the money goes to the care and comfort of the animals.  Many people in rescue have another job (or 2) so that they can support the rescue and themselves.  If you want to do this take some business classes, animal husbandry classes, learn to write grants and proposals, learn fund raising, and be ready for a lot of hard but rewarding work.  Start getting to know people who have the same thoughts that you do.  Maybe several of you can get together and build a sanctuary which will help defray costs.

  5. I think the best thing to do is work at a rescue centre for horses first and get experience of how to run one. Also ask the owners of it how they first came to set up a rescue centre. they be the best to ask as they already have it.

  6. I really do not know how to answer your question precisely. You`ve had a very big heart of love.

I`ve seen an eye specialist on TV who went to visit peoples` in the third world countries such as Indonesia. During his life time, he healed many poor peoples` old, young and children. Men, women, boys and girls.

If you`ve any friends who are vets, I think they can tell you more.

It`s really not much that I can help. But there is one way, take you problem to the radio talk programme, might be of great influence.

  7. if that is what you have always wanted to do then go for it i mean come on everyone that has had a bright idea has gone for it and when you think about it most have succeded u can to.  If you can and want to then put all your heart into that and focas on that for a while and then u can go back to normal collage work

Good luck i hope that helped!

  8. Nah, Being a horse rescue person wouldn'tnough money for a living (no offence) but rescue animal things are volunteer work, well most of them.
