Podolski Could Become Latest City Signing
Germany star, Lukas Podolski, could become Manchester City's latest signing according to the German's agent.
Podolski is currently heavily involved in Germany's World Cup campaign, which means he is not able to confirm or dismiss the rumours. The way he has played at this World Cup has made him one of the most sought after players in the world.
City are continuing their policy of spending whatever it takes to raise the standard of their playing squad to the next level as they look to push for a Champions League place next season.
There would be obvious benefits of a move to City for Podolski but there are also a few negatives, which could put the player off from joining the club. It will be interesting to see if there are any truth in the rumours once the player comes back from the World Cup.
Positives
The obvious positive for Podolski would be the fact that he would be personally secure for the rest of his life. City will offer him wages that no other club can match and wages, which are probably going to be a little higher than the player actually warrants.
He will be attracted by the proposition of playing in the Premier League, which is one of the best leagues in all of Europe. City have signed some very good players so far this summer and Podolski will be attracted by the prospect of playing along side them.
He will also be very attracted by the ambition of the club. It has become clear over the last one or two years that City do not care what others think and they will spend whatever amount of money it takes to bring glory to the club. This is something, which will appeal to a player who may be looking for his next move.
Reasons to be Wary
There are many reason to be wary in relation to this story because City have been linked to a lot of players so far this summer. There is no guarantee at all that Podolski will sign and it could well be just another product of the rumour mill in full circulation.
There is also no guarantee that the player would be interested in a move to City because there is no guarantee of him being able to have first team football. City have a huge squad now and a lot of players who will demand to be in the first team. A move there may not be the best thing for Podolski's game.
At the moment the player has no say in his own future because he is playing for his country in the World Cup. He will want some time off after the tournament has finished and this will draw out the issue for even longer. By this time City might have paid a stupid amount for someone else to walk through the door and the prospect of bringing in Podolski might have been reduced even further.
Be very cautious with the way you approach betting on City next season. They are a very unpredictable side and although they would sign every player under the sun if they could, there is no guarantee that the side will start playing well immediately.
Chelsea have shown that it takes time to get to the top even with the backing of someone who has more than a few pounds in the bank. The best option is to back City for a Champions League spot by the end of the year. This will be the club's best and most realistic target.
