Poem strustures? A,B,A,D?

Question

My teacher was talking about poem structures the otehr day. What is the A,B,A,B,A,D,C,D etc. thing all about? He said something about rythm?

It's how the poem end rhymes. A's would all rhyme, B's would all rhyme, etc...

Here's an ABAB couplet:

Imaging me sitting here,

Upon my old recliner,

I dare not think to shed a tear,

I've never once felt finer.

Yeah, I just pulled that out of the air, so pardon if it's terrible, but you get the idea. :)
