Poetry Contest To Win Money?

Is there any contests out there that will make me win alot of money for my poems.

yeah but they are mostly all scams and in they aren't you have to pay to go get it and you use up as much money as you get so really its a. . .scam.

There are contests out there where money is sometimes offered as a placement prize, but typically these are small amounts.

I do caution you though, on responding to some advertisements and contests listing money as prizes. Many are scams and are only trying to take your money. I encourage you to visit the link I've provided below and check for reports on any contest you are considering entering before you actually enter.

they have contests all the time

i don't enter much and if i do i don't answer to the winnings but try it

just be careful that site isn't a fraud though

cuz they charge you money just be careful

Yes, there are many contests out there and many legit places, too. Many literary journals now run contests for the best poem submitted. Typically, you send 3-5 poems and a check. If you win, you win some cash and publication, and the literary journal raises money to keep itself alive and in business. Though a contest for "A" poem seems most odd to me, and the competition is steep.

There are also hundreds of book and chapbook contests. Many are legit. Here's a darn good list: http://redactions.com/book_contests.asp

Again, the purpose of these contests is to raise money so the publisher can stay in business. Again, it will cost around $15-$25 to enter a book or chapbook contest. If you win, you should receive cash back (generally somewhere between $250 to $1000 and upwards of $2000) and copies of the book (generally 25 to 100).

These book contests are even steeper in competition. Each press will receive at least 500 submissions. BOA (one of the top three poetry publishers in the country) receives about 1000 submissions for each book contest. So if you enter, your book better be strong and polished because the winning book always is.
