Question:

Point system for Fantasy Baseball?

Next year we are going to do a point system, but in our in depth league we want more than just 5-5. I am looking for help to balance out our in depth point system

We are going to have a tier for Earned Runs and Hits allowed. But after looking at our initial idea for setup below, you will see how Closers and mid relievers will be the best players on the teams...how do we balance this without losing Saves and Holds?

Runs- 3pt

1B- 2pt

2B- 4pt

3B- 5pt

HR- 6pt

RBI- 3pt

SB- 4pt

BB- 1pt

K- -1pt .

W- 5pt

L- -2

K- 1pt

SV- 5pt

BB- -1

HLD- 3pt

IP- .5

ER- 0 = 5

1 = 4

2-3 = 3

4 = 2

5= 1

6+ = 0

HA- 0-2 = 5

3-4= 4

5-6 = 3

7-8 = 2

9-10 = 1

10+ = 0

You see? A Closer could pitch one Inning, get a Save, 0 ER, and 1 or 2 hits, and maybe 2 Ks and put up 17 points...wew dont want that...ideas?

  1. Actually, I play in a league with a very similar format and for me it's a better, more comprehensive way to go as you find out who the complete players are. (You might want to even add CS and E---and 4 for a SB is ridiculously skewed, especially if it's not counterbalanced by minuses for getting caught---it's like saying a SB is worth 3/4 of a HR and that's not representative of the game on the field like the rest of your system is).

    Now for your math---closers won't gain 15-17 points for a single save. My league uses 1 pt. per inning, 5 for saves like you propose so saves are generally worth 6 to 9 points, not 17. It works out for us that a 2 saves (5 + 5) is worth 1 win (10) and that's pretty fair.

    I very much like your sliding scale for hits and runs allowed....we are going to have to consider that.
