Pokemon emerald and ruby take about the same amount of time. However, you need to trade with Pokemon Leaf Green, Pokemon Fire Red, Sapphire, and Ruby to finish Emerald. Ruby you need to trade with Pokemon Sapphire and possibly Pokemon Leaf Grean/Fire Red. In other words, Pokemon Ruby would most likely take shorter to overcome.

Ruby is shorter and easier. I beat ruby in 3 days but Emerald took me a whole week!
