I was accepted into the air force.. When im done serving my term i want to be a police officer. I have experimented with marijuana but have no legal record of it. I hear they do polygraphs when they hire you though and that is a question thats probably going to come up.. Fooling a lie tester is virtually impossible so if i admit to that can i be a cop? dont they prefer people with military experience? what kind of questions are asked? will they allow me to be a cop?

  1. Police officers are people too.  Generally, a police agency will not care if you have consumed marijuana in the past, as long as the past does not mean last week.  Trust me on this one-BE HONEST.  If you lie, you are done with the hiring process.  Some agencies have different philosophies on applicants with military experience.  This is due to the fact that, although there are exceptions, during most military engagements the enemy outnumbers the innocents.  In the law enforcement world, it is completely the opposite.  Officers have to be very aware of the fact that innocent people can be easily harmed while officers are performing their duties.  Different agencies have different questions that they ask.  It would be unfair to the police agency and you if you knew what they were going to ask you.  Remain truthful and I'm sure that you will be fine.  Best of luck!

  2. They don't car as long as you tell the truth.

Being a police officer doesnot mean your an angel.

  3. Most departments have a time limit such as no drug use for 5 years or since age 25.  You will have to ask.

I would just ask at the initial interview' "look I tried pot when I was 18 and 19 but haven't since, will that stop me?"

This will demonstrate an honesty level that may help if there is not a definite time limit.  If they have any choice.

  4. Yes it happens to the best of us. Just be honest and you should have no problems. Its very simple questions; and most of them are asked before the polygraph. Good luck!!!

  5. im not sure, but i heard somwhere that like if youve been clean for a couple of years it shoudnt b a problem, but im not 100% positive...

& lying is probably not your best option.
