Police in the USA ...... ?

Why do they travel alone? Am watching yet another 'shocking moments caught on camera', a policeman is being battered, can't get to his radio for assistance. More and more I see these programmes and the officers are always on their own.

Why don't they ride in pairs ? Surely this would be a lot safer.

Day shifts or peak times would probably mean that they can afford to send two officers at once, per situation.

However, when it is night or the amount of cops on duty are low, they probably send one. Though it also depends on the situation. You're not going to send a SWAT team out for a family argument. Likewise you wouldn't send a single cop to a bank robbery.

Yes, generally, they do ride by themselves in certain cities New York is NOT one of them! They ride two people!  As violence gets worse, it may be adopted in all the big cities. BUT, I think one of the reasons you will find only one cop in a car, are the State's budgets! Each State has to pay their own Police Force, and that must come out of taxes collected, - some have enough funding, where others don't! Sad but true.

Municipalities don't have enough funding to pay two people to sit in one car.  That's the bottom line.

Normally they are with two people, just depends on the shifts I guess- There's no point having a squad car with 2 people, doing a routine stop, instead of having the other policeman doing a ''drugs inquiry''..

But I agree, they should have 2 OR MORE in each Squad Car, but hey, were civilians what can we do.

Same old thing governments collect millions in taxes , but when it comes to spending it on what it was intended for they bleat poverty , but somehow always manage to hold there elaborate meetings in expensive hotels , and fact finding missions always first class in the most expensive hotels

maybe that certain police department or sheriff department is low on man power and they are just maximizing the police visibility by sending one cop.  as far as i know a single officer should inform the dispatch first before stopping the suspect or wait for the back up first, if the situation is dangerous.

In many places in America only one is needed Were I grow up in Texas we never locked our front door the milkman would put the milk in the icebox the policeman was so bored he would drive me around to deliver my news papers I would walk down the street and people would tell me ''tuck in your shirt don't make me tell your mother

People would come over and ask ''y'all have some sugar we are out and don't feel like going to the store'' What a great town to grow up in and it's still like that

They use to have a sign outside of town ''population 1200 friendly people and 2 old mean SOB"s'' but they made them take it down

At 8 i stole a peach from old Ms Worth tree two days later the police told me ''Y'all know you should of asked her Now your going to have to mow her lawn for the rest of the summer for free'' The last day of summer Ms Worth handed me a home made peach pie Thanks as the old song said ''I want to go home Ho Lord I want to go home''
