Polygamy in Egypt???

Question

What do you think about the situation nowadays? Is it common to have more than only one wife? I know the Islamic law about it, but I am interested in how it works in real life, especially in Egypt.

One of my friends is in love with a Muslim man, and I worry for her, altho I am sure he loves her equally. So what is the tendency in Egypt? And what do you think about it? Thanks.

i am sure many do not understand polygamy

some is saying it is the lower class

others say its in the gulf only were we can see it

but in fact i agree its going now less and less may be the main factor in that due to higher costs of living man now hardly can afford the marriage to only one so the wealthy pple cant cover the expenses of two wives as well the middle class man having the same problem

never the less in my opinion the percentage did not change for the last few centuries and those who are not capable of getting married to the second wife they have it the same way these days either by cheating on their wives or having different a alternatives

small proportion of pple which do not stop marriages add to that if your friend got married to this fellow i should consider her lucky that eastern man with all the presumption that you have about him would give his partner much more than others

in the gulf they encourage marriages due to the fact that women population to mans population is very high so it is not fair that their men get to marry from different countries and some of their women do not experience love life at all so they allow different kinds of marriages one of them which called "mesyar"would allow the husband of having sexual life with the wife with no responsibilities of accommodation or pocket money or food he can even go to her at her own house and leave in the morning

i can say that polygamy is rare , less than .01 %.

only the very low class , uneducated men marry a second wife .

the elite dont do it , and look down on it .

Mrs Sadat was behind a law that  limits the freedom of men to marry another wife .

this law stopped middle class men from thinking of a second marriage .

her Egyptian husband will treat her like a queen , esp she is European and he loves her .

congratulate them and wish them well.

it is cool if they love each other. it will be difficult to think about tomorrow when your friend may be fat and no more attractive to him.

the percentage of men who are married to more than one wife in Egypt is way less than 01% if not less. all my life I did not meet or heard about real polygamy except once.

only uneducated people can go for polygamy, though polygamy still exist in Arab Gulf countries were the traditions there play big role in people life.

Muslims are allowed to have up to 4 wives in Egypt

She also needs to become informed of FGM to make sure her daughters are not faced with this.

In general, in most of the Muslim world that permits polygamy, men still have only one wife at a time (occasionally two), as Sharia law

requires that all wives must be loved and treated equally.

However, in some countries overflowing with oil based wealth, multi-millionaire men and royalty men not only have multiple wives but concubines as well (I have always wondered how these men square having continuing relationships with concubines with Muslim intolerance with women having non-marital s*x).
