Poor Hd Reception?

I have a Comcast HD DVR box running off a split line coming from the next room. The picture quality is decent, but the recption is awful. I sometimes can't get HD channels and usually HD channels come in all pixelated and unwatchable. Comcast tells me I am getting poor reception because I am splitting the signal and they don't wanna come out to install a new input into the room. Is there some kind of signal booster on the market that will allow me to continue using the box? Or can I get someone to install a new cable input into the room?

One split shouldn't make THAT much difference.  

> Check the frequency range on the front of the splitter.  It should be good to at least 800 MHz.  

> Make sure you don't use a splitter larger than you need (i.e. don't use a 4 way if you only need a two way).  

> Also check your cables.  A bad cable or poorly installed connector can cause a lot of problems.

One split should only be a 3 to 4 dB loss, not that bad. Maybe you have a bad splitter. Check that the connections are tight, Only use cables that are s***w-on, not those slip-on types.

If you can, move the DVR to the other room and connect it directly, without the splitter. This should verify if the incoming signal is good.

I'd get a dual F connector called an F81. Run just the cable you have and just one set that you are having trouble with. Use the F81 to replace the splitter. You are only running one set, and one cable box. This will verify that it is or is not the splitter causing your trouble.

Now with the F81 inline if you are still having trouble, well it's not the splitter and you can start looking for bad cables.

If it is the splitter you can get a distribution amplifier that will boost the signal.
