There is no way to say this without sounding racist.

If you live there, don't you agree it is getting a lot of African American/Hispanic's?

If you lived here 5 years ago, it would have been a peaceful. But now we have attacks on the MAX, people are killing and raping each other cconstantly.

  1. There are good and bad parts everythwere, Gresham is a prime example. We lived there and there was a huge change in caliber of people so we got out of there. In good time too, there have been many murders there since we left. It's scary and sad....As for who are commiting these crimes just read the news, I'll say no more. And these are facts, not just my opinion.

    http://www.kgw.com, http://katu.com, http://koin.com take your pick.

PS, Some areas of NE Portland are very nice, old homes with prestine yards....like I said good and bad everywhere. And the West side is overpriced, over crowded and you couldn;t get me to move there for ANY reason!

  2. This is an absurd question! If you lived in NE Portland 10 years ago, you would have seen an unbelievably different place. NE has become so gentrified that the African Americans/Hispanics and poorer people are moving out of this city. I live in Outer SE Portland and in only a year, I have seen the crime rates in my neighborhood drop dramatically.

There is no place on the entire East Side that I feel uncomfortable in. I could not have said that 10 years ago.

  3. Yes, all of Portland suburbs are getting worse, but the inner city east side and downtown are getting better and more expensive.

  4. "NE Portland has the distinction of being the neighborhood where even the police precinct gets shot up from drive bys"

Dude, thats not true! And not okay to say. NE portland is huge, how can you say that overall, NE portland is terrible? The Laurelhurst nieghborhood is one of the nicest, well kept neighborhoods in the entire city.

Born and raised in the 97213 (ne portland) zip code, I have never seen a shooting, been robbed, had anything of mine stolen or broken into, ever.

And whats wrong with African Americans/Hispanics? Are you saying that 'they' are the cause of east side turmoil? Cause thats a load of bologna. I do think you sound racist, and its a shame! No one race is contributing to Portland crime in general, theres plenty of issues all around, this I understand, but its still not only confined to the east side. AND in comparision to other cities our size, Im positive we cant complain. Our crime rates are lower than most cities, and I feel safe walking around in Portland (i am a 21 year old woman) at any time of the day or night.

  5. Turning Bad??? Where have you been? Remember Police Chief Charles Moose. In 1993 he bought a house in NE Portland to try to improve the neighborhood image. He thought his presence would stop the drive bys and other crime. After a year or so, he couldn't take the gang warfare and packed up and left Portland.

NE Portland has the distinction of being the neighborhood where even the police precinct gets shot up from drive bys.

  6. No.  East side is just fine.
