Possession of alcohol in VA?

My stepson received a ticket for this. He is 18. He was in his car, but his keys were not in the ignition, thus no DUI. Doesn't anyone know what VA general issues the guilty party as far as fines, etc., for this offense? It's his first one.

In Illinois, if there is no DUI it is a very small offense with a slap on the wrist and a fine. If he can't pay the fine, he should go to court on the date allotted and request community service.
