Question:

Potential new horse?

I am thinking about buying this horse, because I tried her out and I really like her :) She's a chestnut TB with a white star on her face. She's a realy pretty mover trained in dressage and jumping. She also has a nice flowy trot ^_^ And shes only $850 (because she's 12 years old) and completly sound.

Anyway, the thing is that the current owner has one other potential buyer that has first priority over me as she looked at her first. She is a client at the ranch where the horse is boarded and I am not. She told the owner she liked her, but it has been about two weeks and she hasn't told the owner yes or no. The owner said if she didn't hear from her soon she would move on to me, but I don't want to keep E-mailing the owner everyday saying:

"Have you heard from her yet?"

Is there a descriet way I can ask, because if it's not going to work out I want to move on to look at other horses.

Thanks!

-Nicole :)

  1. I would just email them and offer a tad more. For example:

"Hi. I wanted to know if the other buyer responded yet (It's been 2 weeks, you know). I am prepared to offer you $850 - $900 for the mare. If I have to wait for more than 1 more week, I'm buying another horse. I understand that the prospective buyer does have priority over me and that buying or passing a horse is a big decision, but 2 weeks?! I am offering you more than you asked for the mare, and if I don't get a response in the next week, forget about it. I don't  mean to come off as rude, but she has had more than enough time to give you an answer. Thanks and please email back ASAP."

  2. Tell the owner, I have been waiting for 2 weeks now. If I have to wait any longer I will just have to move on, so if you could, please  get an answer straight away or I have no other choice, but to look at other horse.

It should get the owner's attention and because the other client has not responded she will most likely have to sell it to you if shes desperate.

    Good Luck

  3. Make a decision.  Tell the seller you need to have her answer within a certain period of time (3 days) because you are going to purchase another horse.  Then if you don't hear from her, move on.

  4. the whole internet thing isnt a great way to do horse buying alot of scams n fake things go on,

give her a few days and than Email her again.

If she doesnt email back she might of sold the horse to the other buyer

  5. Tell the owner you really want this horse& are prepared to buy it now. If you need to look elsewhere, you would appreciate it if they could tell you so and not leave you hanging for weeks.

  6. I would make sure any offer you make is pending a vet check.  Remember even if she is riding sound it is always buyer beware with horses.

While todays market would justify the lower price a nicely put together sound well trained mare at 850 would still raise a flag or two for me.  I would make sure that she vetted clean.

  7. well e-mail her and give the owner your phone number and tell the owner to call you when a deal has been made or if the horse is up for grabs.....

keep looking at horses....dont stop doing that..... but dont go off and buy a horse if your really wanting this one.

  8. If I were you I would email her your number and say please call if that doesnt work out. She def. will considering the woman wants to sell her horse!

Also I would continue to try other horses and not wait around. You may:

    a) find one you like better

    b) discover you really want the chestnut TB

Good luck she sounds pretty =]

  9. I've just sold a horse, and he was hot property to sell, we had many calls and I had to handle people wanting first option - even those that turned out didn't have the cash.  He to was a reasonable buy.

I'd keep hassling in case anyone gets in front of you. The lady who took our horse would have contacted me 6 - 8 times last week, which I appreciated. I then new she was keen and when the other two backed out she was the first I contacted.

Best of luck - He does sound lovely!!

ps. the lady who phoned me heaps durring the week, I contacted her ahead of those who just made one phone call.

  10. Somebody is dragging their feet with the sale.  You have asked enough times for the seller to know that you are serious.

The only thing that might hurry this sale up one way or the other is to find out that you are looking at other horses.

Let it be known in the barn or to whom ever that you have an appointment to go look at a horse, ( it doesn't have to be the truth, and you don't have to tell your mother that you did this)  Anyway the rumour will filter through the system and get to the owner of *your* horse.  Wait a week or two, if someone asks you about the horse that you were looking at, you can always say that he is not exactly what you are looking for but found another potential.  Heck you can play the game just as well as the next guy.   No guarantee that this will work but it is worth a try.

  11. oooh *sighs* i love chestnut tb's gorgeous horses! ah! i ride one at my lessons hehe

    anyways

yeah i have had SO much internet and horse searching experience  i searched for about 2 years lol nothing worse then a seller who doesn't contact you back about a horse your already "in love" with

maybe you could offer her a higher price, and tell her that you will purchase her right away!

because seller's usually don't get very personal, and yeah she might have already sold the horse

jsut make sure you keep in touch well in yeah don't email her EVERY day but maybe every 3 days

    good luck!

just let her know you are more of a serious buyer and tell her that you need to know if the other buyer is buying her or not!

  12. mabe offer them $900.

  13. $850.00 sounds a little low for for such a trained horse, 12yrs old is not an old horse alot of horses are at their prime at this age, they can live way up into their 30's i know of a guy who still rides his 25 yr old horse, anyways you should have a vet check this horse and maybe even get the horses past and current vet records, i know a guy who bought a beautiful horse he had seen it 4 or 5 times before buying 2 days after he got it home he realized that the horse wouldn't or shouldn't ever be ridden it had been dosed up with bute every time he had seen it before.......buyer beware
