Poured trans fluid into engine

Question

I was changing my trans fluid and accidently poured the new trans fluid in the engine dipstick. I turned the engine on for less than a minute. Should i immediately change the engine oil? Also, did placing the trans fluid in the engine destroy the engine? I ran the engine for less than a minute. Any help is appreciated. Will simply changing the oil fix the problem? WOn't there be traces of trans fluid still in the engine?

drain the fluid,change the filter, do again after 100 miles, should be ok.

I can't believe all the people telling you to do multiple oil changes to "get it all out". You did not hurt anything! Even if it ran for 10 hours that way you did not harm your engine.

If you are due for an oil change then change the filter and oil now, if you changed the oil recently don't bother with the filter, just drain the pan and refill with motor oil.

Any residual ATF in the system will do nothing negative to your motor.

you just performed and old school engine flush,so just change the oil and filter and you shoul be ok,just be careful not to pour engine oil in the transmission that would be a different story.

Change the oil and oil filter, it should not due harm to your internal engine components.

Some people use about a Quart of ATF in their engine crankcase to clean the sludge out of it.

  Trans oil won't hurt anything. Trans. fluid is a higher grade oil than motor oil,it's around 100 or so. It will clean out your lifters. It works great for freeing up locked up motors, put it into the cylinders  & let it sit awhile, worked for me more than once.

no just change the oil if anything the trans fluid will act as a cleaner just change the oil and filter

hmm.ok, for starters..it's virtually impossible to

'pour' transmission fluid in the engine 'dipstick'

so given that..it has to be assumed that you poured

transmission fluid into the hole where the engine oil

goes...agreed?  

Since you stated you ran the engine 'for less than a

minute" it's probobly all good, even any fluid is better

than no fluid,,okies?

my recommendation would be to add transmission fluid

in the place where it does belong...and immediately  remove

both the drainplug and the oil filter ( make sure you have

a new oil filter handy, or new problems created)

allow enough time to COMPLETELY allow the oil to drain..

(even the little drips) then rescrew the drainplug back in

place ..it's always a good idea to find out and ensure the

proper torque setting for your vehicle..then insert the new

oil filter..followed by filling up with the proper amount of

oil for your vehicle's recommendation.

Your engine should be fine, given the fact you shared

the engine was run "for less than a minute".

your engine will be fine. even if you leave the trans fluid in it. either way you have no worries.

i would agree with those guys give it an oil change then another after 100 miles and i'd play it on the safe side and give it another change after 500 miles just because a 20 buck change is so much less expensive than a new engine

if you change the oil you,ll probably get all of it so i wouldnt worry to much about it,it shouldnt have did any damage to it in less than a minute,actually some people use transmission fluid in older engines to help clean them out,they will run them about 3-5 minutes with this in them then let it all drain down and then change the oil so you didnt hurt it none,good luck.
