Practical joke or mean spirited?

Ok, so I have only worked at this law firm for 2 months. On friday I play a little joke on my boss who is the same age as me (29). I'm female, he's male. Another girl in the office said his office was a little smelly, so I got and just spray a TON of lysol in there and shut the door (he was out and returning in 10 minutes) When he walked it everyone laughed, it was good fun, lasted for like 10 minutes, no damage done. He kept saying that he woudl get me back, well he did yesterday but I found out about it today;

I got my pay back only I think this was totally mean spirited, let me know what you think. So yesterday, I was in a p**s poor mood because I find out that the ENTIRE office - excluding me - was invited to do an office football draft yesterday at 4:00. Everyone was invited, but me. . . I may not be a big football fan, but I would have played the game because 1) I love games and 2) so I wouldn't be left out. I was realy upset by this but then my boss who I played the joke on asked me if I wanted baseball game tickets for the next night. I was like YES! So he gives me them. Says they are really great seats. I call up my fiance, my father and another good friend to see if they want to go because the person I asked before them couldn't go. So, i'm set I've a friend to go with, we're both really excited, it's a playoff bound baseball team, if they keep it up! So I'm super excited this morning think that my boss is really nice and maybe I don't hate it there so much. UNTIL . . . I was listening to the local morning radio station, as I do every morning. The sports guy was giving his sportscast and talking about how this team and swept my home team. I was thinking to myself that "I swear that the tickets that i had were for a game against the same team" . .. so i go check my tickets. Yeah, the tickets he gave me were for September 2. Today is September 4. Just when I thought an attorney was actually being nice and I thought they felt bad that they leave the office all the time to go golfing, 3 hour lunchs, day baseball games, and leaving me with NOTHING TO DO FOR 2 MONTHS NOW!!! Yes, I started here 2 months ago and I haven't been given c**p to do. 10 years as a Legal Secretary and I end up here doing a little bit of filing - a job they could pay 1/2 for to a undergraduate college kid!

I'm really upset and feel like this wan't really that funny. Funny is coming to the office and my mouse is missing, lysoling someone's office. .. . giving away fake tickets and getting a beaten down poor secretary fake tickets to something that she was really excited about, is not funny!!

  1. i'm sorry that is funny and BURN

Alright your boss could have been upset at your joke but have played it cool since it is an office. You also stated you were pissed off that day so that didn't help either. Take a deep breath and relax but don't quit or anything like that.

About the football party if EVERYBODY knows you don't like football (I may not be a big football fan) they might have felt you wouldn't have enjoyed the party. If it were a different party (social) then I would be mad but relax they might of did you a favor.

My advise is simple if your going to play jokes be ready to have some done to you. You can't have your cake and eat it to.

  2. I woulda been irritated, too.  And because your joke wasn't mean per se.  His was mean spirited I would say and didn't equal the joke you did to him.  He coulda just matched your joke instead of going so far to trick you.

But I'd let it go and not interact with him as much as possible.  I am sure if people know you are truly upset by it, they may just consider you a bad sport and/or a cry baby.  So, don't let 'em see ya sweat and move on.

It sounds like you don't like the job or your boss. Quit.  You must be getting paid decently for doing nothing when you yourself said they could pay someone else half of what they pay you.  So why complain?  If you can't stand the people or the company- go elsewhere.  Unfortunately- if your boss gets away with taking 3 hour lunches, there isn't anything you will be able to do about it.  It is what it is.

  3. that's actually kind of funny.  you should have known a joke was coming.  never let your fenses down. know you can get him back again, but plan wisely and make it big.

  4. This is one of the reason you should not play games at work. What may be funny to you, may not be all the funny to the next guy. Personally I tend to be good-natured at work, but I would have been pissed if someone lysoled my office and I had to work and smell it all day.

  5. I think you should laugh it off.  It isn't mean spirited, it was just his idea of a joke.  Your joke might have seemed mean spirited to him who knows.  Each has their own opinion.

  6. That's not mean spirited at all, it's a joke get over it. And as for the fact of you being left with nothing to do mention it to your boss don't just sit there and bitc* about it.

Go up to him and say that you don't feel like you are a valued part of the company because you are excluded from company get togethers i.e the pool, golfing, lunches and so forth.

Nothing is going to change if you don't bring his attention to the problem.

And by the way you should have been more observant about the tickets because he did say he was going to get you back and then out of the blue decides to give you game tickets.......think about it.

  7. Hhmmm  Sounds like someone can dish it out but can't take it back.

  8. He probably thought it would be funny.  Lighten up.  He may have felt just as upset about the Lysol incident.  If you want to play games, make sure you're prepared to play all the way.

  9. lmao..you are so getting what you deserve..stop acting like your the victim

you showed blantant disrespect to your manager, made him look like a fool, and in front of the whole office. Gee..why dont you just undermine his authority next time! Of course he laffed..he was already embarrassed...him exploding would only have made HIM look bad. He handled it the correct way.

You werent funny..YOU crossed the line..hope it was worth the laugh..and realise that you did a very stupid thing in the workforce. I wouldnt be asking for a raise anytime soon...lmao
