With next to nothing for equipment, I need activities for my Pre-K students Gym class. I have 20 students and need several ideas to use during a weekly 30 minute scheduled Gym class. Limited space is also a factor.

  1. soccer with a beach ball (won't go far and won't hurt if they do a head shot)

baseball with a soccer ball and wiffle ball bat (won't go far and won't hurt)

hot potato (use 9 nurf balls.  sit kids in 3 separate circles.  give each circle 1 ball to start off with.  explain to them that they must pass the ball around. when someone drops the ball, the person who drops the ball isn't out, they must join another circle.  keep adding balls to each circle.  you can get these balls at the dollar tree store)

elmocize video or some sort of other kid related video for exercise

freeze dance (radio, kids cd needed.  play music and when you stop the music, they must freeze until the music starts again. if they move they are out)

ameba (kids are all in one group.  they have to listen to how many times you clap your hands and self divide into that number of kids.  3 claps=3 kids.  if there is an odd person with no group, that person joins you until he can fit into another group.  this game is great when you have to divide into teams as you clap twice and they kids self divide and make 2 teams)

freeze tag (appoint 4 taggers.  everyone runs and the taggers must tag them and they freeze (sit down) until everyone has been tagged.)

red light/green light (i'm sure you remember this from being a kid)

red rover (same as above.  you know this one)

nerf ball (use nerf balls to play dodge ball.  won't hurt at all)

  2. Hey!

Well you can have them do some fun stretches first!

Then you get a ball (soft beach ball) and play catch with it and count how many times the ball gets caught!

At the end you can give each a high five for going so high!

They learn to count higher and get exercise!

Also you can scatter little nick nacs around the gym and whoever picks up the most gets to keep one of them! The others get a high five and a congrats!

    Have fun and good luck!

  3. have you ever used a parachute. Preschoolers love them. you can toss a ball in it and play opposites (slow, fast, high, low, up down, ) soccer, balance beam activities, duck duck goose, farmer in the dell, simon says, catching and throwing, have fun!

  4. Simon Says, Red light Green Light, do the bunny hop, hop scotch.

  5. You can make an obstacle course with whatever materials are available to you: things to balance on, climb under & over, bean bags or balls to toss at a target, a tunnel to crawl through, etc...make the course will be different every time you set it up so they are never bored with it.

Dancing to their favorite songs with homemade wind wands or scarves is a favorite of my preschoolers and most of them will dance for twenty minutes or more...we also have a yoga DVD that they enjoy doing occasionally.
