Pregnancy/giving birth.......?

what happens at "afterbirth". In school, we were taught that about 20 mins after giving birth to the baby, the woman "gives birth" to the rest of what was keeping the baby in (I don't know if Uterus is the correct term, or placenta?.......).

Can somebody confirm this and give me a little bit of detail? Like do you have to push again? Does it just fall out?

  1. The placenta... yes, you have to "deliver" it too.  Of course it's not as hard as delivering a baby, but you still have to push a bit.

  2. its the placenta and yes you should push to get it out...

  3. hi, yep its called the placenta or afterbirth. I'm not sure where your from but in australia they give you an injection in your leg after you have delivered your baby, this helps the placenta come out quicker instead of waiting for it to come out naturally. you do have to give a tiny push and the nurse/midwife will check it over to make sure its intact and there's none left behind.

  4. I didnt have to 'push' it out, i was given an injection right after my baby girl was born to help the placenta come away from the uterus and it came out about 1 minute after that.

  5. I had the same question about three month ago. My little girl is now 10 weeks old.

Yeah, you have to push again but you won't care! The Placenta is the organ that feeds your baby, your body has no need for it after he/ she is born so you deliver it after the baby. My placenta was delivered almost right after she was born with one good push. It was not very big and not much to look at. Some people take it home and plant it under a tree for some reason. Good luck!
