Price of art work???

Im thinking of creating some pieces of art when I get older, I have some great ideas for large abstract sculptures and furniture pieces that go in the home. I want to sell my art for somewhere in the $1000+ range. Is it common for art to be sold at this price, especially since my art will be made out of expensive material? Will people buy it for this price? and what kind of art do ppl usually spend the most money on???

  1. Art is in the eye of the beholder,a Fella in the 60s.

Painted a picture of a" Can Of Beans." Now its worth a Fortune.

Another Bloke laid out a set of  Bricks in the London Art Gallery that also made him a Fortune.

Salvador Dali made various unexplained shapes on Canvas most of his life.  All his stuff costs a Fortune.

I would love to know who puts a valuation on this stuff.

  2. First of all, for someone to pay top dollar for art, they want to be rest assured that the artist's work has intrinsic value.  By that I mean that the artist's work must increase in value with time.  The artist must be good at what they do and enjoy broad appeal.  They should produce award winning pieces and must appeal to collectors.  Once you've done all this for yourself, you will have no problem with selling your art.  I did an oil on cardboard and sold it for a thousand bucks.  I also painted on someones wall and made about 6 thousand.  I started painting when I was twelve.  Don't wait until you are older.  Start painting now or else it'll never happen later on.  Hold tight to your dreams and I wish you luck.

  3. well it depends what the art looks like

  4. well you gotta start small, once you break into the art world, then you can start selling them for a lot of money.

  5. It concerns me you're already thinking of money... enjoy the process of creating these pieces of art, if you make money later on it's a bonus.

I'm not saying this is what you're going to do but sometimes if work is produced with profit in mind it can lose it's charm, like listening to the music of someone who is technically perfect but doesn't have their heart nor soul in it...

    Good luck though, and enjoy!
