Right, well my laptop has got a problem. Everytime i turn it off at night it seems to reset. So when i turn it on again the next day, it comes up with a black screen telling me aload of stuff about the usb ports & memory and all this..and when i press F1 (for start up) it says password? ..then the password i put in is wrong for some reason :S..and then it goes to the normal start up screen, i put my password in and it starts up. That's fine, but the time and date are reset to 8.8.08 at 00:00. Anybody know why?? ...Please?

  1. It maybe that the system battery is about to go dead (litium ion battery).  Once this goes your system will not keep time correctly and a few other setting will also get reset.

  2. it seems to me like your cmos battery has run down.

the cmos battery looks like a large watch battery on the main board in the computer if it's run down then every time you shut down the bios is reset to default it looses the time and date which has to be reset

  3. the internal battery needs replacing take it into a repair shop it will cost about £20 to put right

  4. I got the same problem with one of my friends laptop. If you take this to the shop, they will open the back, replace the battery & it should be fine. I did it myself (it's a bit risky, but cheaper). If you know what are you doing, go ahead..... or just take it to the repairing shop... Ta

  5. I suspect that you may have a virus.  Run antivirus befor you do anything else.

  6. How old is your laptop? it sounds like it could be your CMOS battery, Luckily it isn't too hard to replace.
