Problem with reformatting my hd??

I'm trying to reformat my winxp hd, but when i'm in the middle of reformatting it, my laptop just suddenly turns off? It usually happens at the point when it is copying files from the disk(after the reformatting I tried deleting my previous hd, butit still restarted.Does anyone have any solutions?

  1. Without knowing what make and model laptop you have it's difficult to offer specific advice. One of the more common reasons for any computer to turn itself off is overheating.  Make sure your laptop is well ventilated and the internal fan/vents aren't blocked.

    A less likely possibility is the battery and/or power supply is failing.

    Another possibility is a physically damaged hard drive.

    And there's also the possibility that the disk you're using to reformat is damaged in some way.

    If you can find a "live CD" from one of the many Linux programs like Ubuntu, Knoppix, etc you could try booting from the CD to see if your computer will function.  If it does you can probably rule out a bad hard drive.
