Problems setting up Home Cinema system?

I have a home cinema system I am having problems setting up. It's actually a Wharfedale DS-5957 + AL-604 DVD player and 2.1 set-up. It came with a standard AV cable (3 RCA at each end) and another cable which is 3.5mm male headphone to 2 RCA. Am I correct to assume that the 3.5mm jack is designed to go into the headphone socket on the TV and the other 2 RCA end into the "input" sockets on the back on the sub? If this is the case, what cable do I need to purchase in order to work around this as my TV (a new LG LCD) doesn't actually have a headphone socket? Any light anyone can shed would be greatly appreciated.

For you to get the most out of your system, you will need 2 sets of cables. Depending on your tv, you will need 2 sets of RCA cables. Both cables should have a red connector on each end and a white connector on each end. Basically, what you need to do is 1st connect one set from your tv and into your amp which should have an input set marked "tv". Second, get a second set and plug that from your dvd and into your amp. Again, you should have the inputs marked "DVD" or maybe even "video". Make sure the speakers and connected up to the amp and if i'm right each speaker should have a + & - connector coming from the speaker. Connect them up (left to left/right to right). Power up the TV, the amp and select the input to TV. Turn the volume up at the amp and enjoy stereo sound! :D Do the same for playing DVD's. As for the subwoofer, it should have it's own power supply and only one lead is required to make it work (usually black). Hope that helps.

Okay, now I could be totally wrong here because I don't know the models you're working with, but I may be able to help a little.

The standard AV cable will go from the back of the DVD player to the TV inputs. I'm sure you've gotten that far.

The other cable, check on the back of the home theatre system..maybe it is the one with the "headphone like" jack. The 2 RCA, I assume are red and white, are Left and Right audio most likely coming out of the TV. If you say the TV doesn't have a headphone jack (mine doesn't either, don't worry) then most likely you've just got it backwards.

Also, nothing should plug into the sub. The sub should plug directly into the Wharfedale system for it is the part that controls it.

Nope don't use a headphone socket as this will usually mute the signal internally..

I would have thought that there should be an "Audio In" on the back of your surround system and an "Audio Out" on the back of your DVD player..... You need to connect these to via whatever type connection cable the devices use..
