How are the big time companies able to fit high quality video onto a 4.3 GB DVD. I mean do they have some type of special DVD (not HD or Blu-Ray). Or do they have spme type of good compressor that compresses it but keeps the good quality?

They are very few single-layer DVDs these days (4.3 GB). Most movies are in dual layer and some in triple layer.

Production houses usually use two-pass methods for the best possible quality, but the bit rate is usually about 6-8 Mbits/s.
