Professional pictures?

Does any body have tips for getting a decent picture with an ordinary camera?

Good lighting helps, outdoor pics tend to look the best since you don't need all the professional lighting equipment.  Tripod helps too.

Practice, practice, and practice! Remember also that photography is essentially the creation of an image from the available light. Make sure you focus on lighting and it's effect on the picture. More often than not, beginners don't understand lighting, and how it changes a good picture from a great picture.

In addition to the tips above, understand what you can do with filters  & with a good image processing s/w (assuming that your camera supports RAW format). These two things can make a world of difference in making pictures come to life, but no substitute for right lighting & composition.
