  1. laois =  leash

    offaly = awfully

    cavan = kav-un

    louth = just like it sounds, but the 'th' is like you pronounce 'the'

    monaghan= mon-uh-han

    galway = gawl-way

    donegal = don-i-gawl

    leitrim =lee-trim

    armagh = ar-ma

    fermanagh =fermanna

    the link below will actually allow you to hear the word pronounced when you type it into the search area (at top next to the word medical) - it will give you info. on the word, show you the pronunciation and has a symbol to click to hear it.  pretty awesome

  2. Laois= Leash(LIKE A DOG LEASH)

    Offaly= Exactly how its spelt

    Cavan= Ka-vin

    Louth= Loud

    Monaghan= Mona-han

    Galway= Gawlway

    Donegal= Duni- gawl

    Leitrim= Lee-Trim

    Armagh=  Ar- Ma

    Fermanagh= Fair Mana

    Something like that. These are all English translations of the original Irish names so Irish people often pronounce them similarly to the Irish forms.

  3. LEE-shhh [like a dog's leash]

    off-ALLEY

    cah [like "cat, w/out the "t"] - vih-n [like in calVIN klein!]

    L- OWWW [sound you make when you hurt yourself!] -thuh

    Mon [like c'mon, w/out the "c"]- AAHH- han [like "hand, w/out the "d"

    GALL [like "gallstones"!]- way

    Dun ["done"] -EEEE- gall [again, like "gallstones"]

    LEE-trim [as in a little hair cut]

    AAARGGHH [like a pirate!]- maaa [like a sheep's "baa"]

    fur- MAAA- NAAA

  4. people with different accents, even within Ireland pronounce them differently. Dublin , with the heavy u sound, is typical Dublin accent.

    So in a Dublin accent

    Laois= leesh

    Offaly= of-ally

    Louth= louth

    monaghan=

    mon-ah=han

    Galway=gawl=way

    Donegal=dun-ee-gaal

    Leitrim= lee-trim

    Armagh=arr-maa

    Fermanagh= fir-man-ah

    don't worry about it too much, just know the gh is pronounced ah

  5. Laois is pronounced  as LEE-sch.

    Offaly as Offle-LEE.

    Cavan as CAA Van.

    Louth as  Loud the

    monaghan as Mon a Han.

    Galway as Gaul way

    If you research the difference in irish vowel sounds. Say words fast  Mon a han is all one word quickly. Soft A`s are used in the language, remember "e" is pronounced as "a"

    and "a" is pronounced as agh.

    Its a different pronounciation and language usage  than the english language.

    Irish has no Z,K, J,Q V in it`s alphabet so we have to find a way to make these sounds by putting letters together.

    The Englis versions of place names is a phonetical translation.
