  1. In cross country, spikes are illegal. What you maybe thinking of is racing flats, which I highly recommend for races. They are basically like track spikes without the spikes: very, very light shoes. How they compensate for this lightness is that these racing flats provide very little support. This does not mean they are uncomfortable but it would definitely not be a good idea to train in them.

    *EDIT* to bobba.kanoosh:

At all of the invitationals I have been to, race officials have told me they are not allowed. But I live in California, so this rule may vary in different states. I am sorry for my mistake, I was just basing my statement off of my personal experiences.

But even though they might not be illegal everywhere, I would still not advise wearing them during cross country races because race terrains include grass, dirt, concrete and more, and especially the concrete can ruin your spikes.

Now the spikes I am thinking of are like track spikes, light racing shoes with removable metal spikes. I call those spikes. Right now my racing flats have little tiny rubber spikes built into the sole, and they won't get ruined by walking on concrete. I don't consider these spikes, but flats. So we also might be confused on what "spikes" are.

    Again, sorry for my mistake.

  2. its all about personal prefference. i know people who use them every meet and others that never wear them and hate them. i would suggest that you go to a specialized running store, and by that i dont mean d**k's or sports athority. i mean like a small store, no franchise. where i live there are places called charm city run and princeton sports which are very good places to find help. just ask around, im sure someone ought to know... i recnetly went and they gave me a pair of asics that were 140 dollars, but theyre amazing and its soo much easier to run in! haha hope i helped!! =]

  3. ^^^They're definately not illegal.

And they typically do help, a lot.

They're comfy, light, and look badass.
