Public High Schools information?

Can you only attend public high schools (in the us) if you LIVE in the district? Would it be alright to own a house IN the district of the school you want to go to but have it rented out to someone else? In other words, can you live in ANOTHER district but own a house IN the district with the school you want to go to but NOT live there?

.. I'm not sure if that makes sense... But all answers are appreciated.

  1. the main thing is,

you have to go to the school in the district that you live in...

but if you get a PERMIT to go to a different school district,

then you will be able to go to the school you want.

    heres my story

i live in LAKEWOOD but i got to school in DOWNEY

i use to live in downey, but wen we moved,

i didnt wana move schools, because i want to be with my friends.

so my dad went to the school district that i live in(lakewood),

and he got a PERMIT for me to go to a school in DOWNEY.

u have to have a reason on why you want to go to that school

    but its not hard.

my dad just put that i started school in downey and would like to finish there.

then, once you have the permit,

go to the school that you want to go to and give them your permit.

make sure that you are registered to that school :)

you cant have Fs in you report card

and not a lot of absences

    dont worry :)

  2. You must pay the taxes to the school district that you want go to. It is the law.

  3. I'm pretty sure that you have to live in the district. Even though you own a house there, your not in the district so you can't go to those schools. But you still have to pay the school taxes for the district because you own a house there.

  4. Uhh you can go to the school if you dont live in the district and request special assignment... If they say yes then you can go to the school. But depending on how close it is to the new school year they may reject..

And if you own a house in the school district or rent w.e that you want to go to how would they know that its not your main house.? Just lie and say you live in that one or tell them you have two homes ... :D

  5. yes you would have to live in the same town to attend the same school, trust me, I wanted to change schools as well in another district, and they said you can't otherwise you'll have to pay!!! so if i were u i would just stick w/ the school u r in for now!!

  6. yes you can, when you go to that school but put the house in the same districts address on the schools information packet.. how do you think kids with divorced parents who live at both houses can choose what school they go too?

  7. yeah. just give them all the info to the house you dont live in. dont say you dont live in it tho

  8. you are suppose to live in the district otherwise your suppose to apply for a variance

  9. I think so but you can't live too far away. And there might not be any buses that ride where you live..it all depends, really!

  10. yes that makes sense, but im not sure that would work. you can usually comvince the school board to help you with things like that. i had friends from my public school who lived in another city but se wanted to attend my school for its great music program. at first they wouldn't let her but since she had an excuse they bent the rules.
