Question:

Public transportation free to stop pollution?

i watched the news today and arnold schwartzenegger plans for reducing global warming was to not for conservation but for improvement on development on electric vehicles. while its cool since i might consider buying one somewhere in the future he never mentioned conservation or reduction through means of public transportation. this one critic of his during the story suggested free public transportation instead of cars at least during the morning time only where most of the commuting occurs. this got me thinking and i thought it was a good idea it would cut down on pollution, get people off their cars, and they dont have to pay for the transportation in the process. who else believes this practice would be better if public transit would be made more efficient and free during commuting hours?

  1. The public transportation would get too crowded and they government would have to pay more for for buses (public transportation)

  2. I dont think it should be free because, the money collected goes to environmentally-friendly projects used to better ou situation of Global Warming.

People should use cars less, you can ride a bike or walk.

  3. I am sorry to say, that it will never happen.

    why? simple.

the govornment cares more about $$$$$$$$$ than the enviroment

  4. This will not work because most Americans are too egotistic to use public transportation unless they are poor and have to use it.

  5. public transit is an amazing idea, i agree. not only is it good for the environment and global warming, but think of how many accidents and traffic we would be stopping!!! plus i definitly think a lot of people would be into it, b/c we all know it's SUCH a pain to pay gas/diesel prices, and why pay for your own car and buy one when you could just jump on the Metro or something? it would be sooo beneficial! :D

  6. The problem is it's not efficient at all right now.  Most cities have awful public transit systems and making it better in one city doesn't really help.

  7. Public transportation, is so much cheaper than driving your own auto anyway, why do you need it for free?

  8. Who is going to pay for this? Most people love their cars and dont want anything to do with riding a bus or train or whatever. Personally I think public transportation is a joke unless you are in New York or something wher there is nowhere to park.

  9. You are ahead of politicians, but a few are catching up. San Francisco and Pittsburgh, Penn. may adopt this plan. The difference between a free bus trip and a drive to an expensive, and hard to find, parking space will promote your solution. Some countries have cheap bus fares.

The number of riders in BART free fare on a "Clean The Air Day" reached a new record.

Contra Costa County reduced its fares and ridership went up, OK, maybe the high gas prices had something to do with that. Good idea!
