Pubs in north yorkshire please.?

What pubs in n yorks are family friendly, great, traditional, and serve good food?

try the Toby Carvery, its on the way into york near monks cross. it does a full menu and has a big carvery. theres lots of them around and are very popular. kids can go too and all the staff are lovely. its really cheap and you get loads. the kids menu is nice too. happy eating xx

I used to live in Ripon near Harrogate, and although I haven't been there for a few years the black bull on the edge of the market place used to be really good for a slap up lunch or dinner.  proper pub food and nice atmosphere.

Got me all sentimental about the old place now.  Ripon really is worth a visit if you're up that way.

It's England .....ALLLLLL the food is GREAT ......EVERYWHERE!! and the people !!! Not drunks like the rest of the world !! They know how to stop at the pub for a pint ...have one ...then leave ...much different then from where i come from !!

In the 1980's, the local village pubs simply weren't able to survive on drink alone, so a lot diversified into food, and many did it really well, with good quality ingredients.  Personally, I think that good pub food is now one of the best things about British cuisine.  As a result, you will be unlucky if you go into a rural pub, and don't get good food.  Most of these, by necessity, are family friendly and traditional.  I can give you a few examples of small villages that used to contain (I think they still do!) excellent pubs north of Harrogate: Snape, Carthorpe, Wath, Nosterfield,  - all in a very small radius.  Many have specialist chefs, and fantastic menus.

Very big place, but beautiful. If you head anywhere round, Harrogate, Ripon, Thirsk sort of area you'll come across a lot of traditional style pubs that serve great food. If it's the Dales that you're heading to then you might be struggling to find a decent choice.
