I understand the reason why this man cannot have 80 wives. He is limited to 4 I know. But, where does the justification of the death penalty come from? I mean, what is the reasoning? Also, what happens to the 76 women that he is forced to divorce if they have children? What happens to the children? What happens to the women? Also, why do the Islamic court call the women a "herd"? Thank you.

  1. i think the death penalty might be slightly overexaggertaing it,

but lol as the first guy said 80 wives is a death sentence in itself

  2. Well, there is no death verdict for such a "crime". When the command of reducing the number of wives to 4 was revealed, the prophet (pbuh) commanded a man who had more than 4 to divorce the rest and only keep four:

When Ghaylan Ath-Thaqafi accepted Islam, he had ten wives. The Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) told him, "Choose four of them and divorce the rest." (Reported by Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, Ibn Abi Shaybah, Ad-Darqutni, and Al-Bayhaqi)

I don't know from where did they get that death penalty.

As for the wives who are divorced, the problem is that the root of the problem is not Islamic and now the result will be kind of tough upon those women. Islam allows a maximum of four wives and no more. Now this guy has 80 wives and he divorces 76 of them, they become widows, and the media will blame Islam for the result, probably. Anyways, real Muslims of their age will probably be too ready to remarry them as widows are talked about in narrations and supporting and helping them are encouraged.

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 007, Book 064, Hadith Number 265.

    --------------------------------------...

Narated By Abu Huraira : The Prophet said, "The one who looks after a widow or a poor person is like a Mujahid (warrior) who fights for Allah's Cause, or like him who performs prayers all the night and fasts all the day."

As for the "herd", don't mind them they probably don't know the use of the word.

EDIT: I probably confused the terms. Anyways, prophet Muhammed (pbuh) kept his wives because he was ordered to do so in the Qur'an and because other people were not allowed to marry his wives after his death.

  3. 4 marriges is not farz  in islam

  4. well this man obviously isnt practicing the correct Islam.. nor is the judge who claims the wives are a herd and the death penalty isnt Islamic..

There is nothing in Islam that condemns a man to death if he breaks the laws of marriage.. All that happens is the 5th wife on up to 76 are just not legal wives, nothing more.. The marriages will be anulled.. I dont know what society says about the babies.. I assume like anywhere, since its not a legal marriage. the children will be considered fatherless children from an illegal marriage.. Shame though that he brought this upon those women.. (But they should have known better also)...

meekal, they are not widows... a widow is a women whose husband has died.. When you are divorced, the term is just "divorcee' " ....

  5. I would imagine they are using the death penalty because only the 4 wives are legal marriages, and the rest are considered mistresses. fornication is haram in islam, and the fornicator who is married gets the death penalty. there needs to be 4 witnesses before giving the death penalty, and there are plenty of witnesses if he was married to 80 women, because surely their word and their father's word and their brothers' word would all count against him.

  6. For Islam, it's always easy to justify the death penalty. When in doubt, kill somebody.

  7. OMG.. Thats shocking. 80 wifes.. for heavens sake. thats way over the limit. Why in God's name did he do this?

    He must be punished.

    Peace

  8. 80 wives should be punishment enough
