Puppy not eating.....?

Question

My puppy was ill, the vet advised us to feed him chicken and rice for a day cause its light on the stomach. Now he's better, and he liked the chicken so he won't eat his usual puppy food, even though he's starving. Any ideas on what i can do?

try mixing the chicken in with his puppy food and then gradually phase it out...i went through the same t hing with one of my dogs.

i think u should ask your vet. this happend 2 a friend's dog. they didn't get him 2 the vet in time

If he were actually starving he would eat.  Dogs are programmed to gobble down whatever food they happen upon in the wild because they don't know when they will find food next.  Puppy food is also full of fat so most dogs devour it.

It is possible he is either a: not hungry or b: still not feeling too well.

Call your vet and ask him.

You could maybe try chicken flavored treats. Usually on every box they say the flavor. Try feeding him one treat and then breaking up a couple and put it in his dog food. Then maybe he'll start eating dog food again. Or you could also put little pieces of chicken in his dog food dish. Mix it with the food and he might start eating again. Just remember once he gets really hungry he'll probably end up going to his food dish so don't feed him any more chicken unless it's in his doggy dish mixed with his food. If you feed him more chicken by hand he'll expect to get more. So he wont eat dog food. So try the chicken flavored treats and chicken mixed with dog food. Hope I helped. i would try to mix the chicken and rice with his dog food and little by little exclude the people food.  he will eat when he gets hungry, let the food sit out and he will eat it. i konw it sounds awful but when they are starving they will eat.

Mix the chicken and rice with his usual food. Then gradually give him less and less of the chicken and rice, and soon he will be eating his normal food again.
