Purple or violet objects in space?

I wanted to know if there are any purple or violet objects in space you can see from a home-telescope. I need to know this for a story I'm writing, so if anyone can tell me it would be much appreciated.

  1. Sure.

But human eyes wouldn't be able to distinguish the colors. A camera with long exposure could.

For your purposes, if I understand them, I would say no, a character in your story would see light but not be able to distinguish colors.

But why not work that into the story, if it's sci-fi or sci-fantasy? You could have your hero being able to see what other humans can't by some genetic abnormality or mutation. It would involve the cones and rods in our eyes. Here's a link for a start on research if you like the idea.

I've read that there are some human beings who CAN see into the ultra violet range of the spectrum.

Just a thought, I'm no writer but I read constantly;)

  2. None that emit pure violet.  Most emit or reflect a broad spectrum of electro magnetic energy (light).  However, there are nebulas that have the color you want in them.
