with triangles...

If b is 30 and c is 34 inches, then what is a? the formula is like a to the second power +b to the second power= c to the second power

???if you could go step by step that'd be great :]

b square + a aquare is  = c square

b^2 + a^2 = c^2

32^2 + a^2 = 34^2

the answer and i dont have a calculator near me is

you substract 32^2 from 34^2 and then you get the square root

1156= asquared + 900

-900                  - 900---subtract 900 from both sides so you get a squared by itself

256= asquared

then take the square root of 256 and a just so you are left with a

a=16
