That happens alot in Yahoo Pool.  I've played it for a number of years and it happens all the time - nothing new.  It's a glitch of some sort that Yahoo has never corrected.   I know what you're talking about, though.  The cue ball gets stuck in the gutter and doesn't return to the table, so the game is 'frozen' and the cue stick is on the left rail; nothing happens.  The only answer I can give you to solve that problem is do what other people do: click on 'quite', then request to cancel', which asks your opponent to cancel the game.  This way, you both can start a new game.  That's really the only way out of that.   Hope this helps.
