OK so I have a blackberry pearl and I'm wondering how many text messages it can hold...like including the sent and received, cuz for some reason mine will just automatically delete some messages even when I have set it to keep the messages forever... so basically I'm just wondering how many messages it can hold....

and also, if you know, how does the GPS work?

  1. There is not a lot of default memory on your pearl, so I wouldnt save too many.  If it has too many emails/text, it will start deleting them, and that isnt good, because your phone is screaming for space in order to be fully functional.

Check your file space available by going into your options, mobile network, run a diagnostic test, then see what is going on with your memory.

The GPS feature isnt as good on the pearl, but you can experiment around with it.  At the moment, you can pull up maps, send people your location etc.

  2. The amount of messages is only limited by the available memory; there is not a set number. I once had over 2000 text messages on my device at one point and have never lost a message.

The problem of your messages being automatically deleted is caused by the device having a low amount (or none at all) of memory. When the memory gets lower (lower than 12MB in some cases, although there is not a set number) the device will start deleting messages and/or call logs to conserve memory. You can check your available memory by going to Options > Status and checking the File Free parameter.

The quickest way to free up some memory is to perform a hard reset. Remove the battery from the device (while it is still powered on) for about 30 seconds, then reinsert. Also, look at the links below for ways to maximize the memory:
