Question:

Question about Kawasaki Ninja 500r?

I am 6"1 and 17 years old, living in Minnesota. 4 months of riding time out of the year if we're lucky, haha. I will be paying for this bike completely on my own, paying in full once I purchase it and covering insurance and gas on my own every month also. So I want to be smart about which bike I buy.

If I get a Kawasaki Ninja 500r (already decided against the 250), will I get bored quickly with it? Or is there a different bike out there that's better than the Ninja 500r for the 5000 price range?

Keep in mind this is going to be my first bike.

Thanks alot!

  1. I started off 4 years ago on a 10 year old 600 honda, maybe a little bit big of a bike for a beginner. If you are buying new, the 500r would be the best bang for your buck for a starter street bike. They are light and easy to handle, and more comfortable for somebody 6'1" than a more aggressive sportbike. At 245 lbs, it isn't going to have a lot of power, and you will probably want to upgrade next year or the year after. I would recommend an Abate course when you start as well, you can find out about classes from the local DMV. I live in AK and ride all the time, you can squeeze 6 months of riding if you bundle up!

  2. less than $5000  ,,, no

I would say the Kawasaki 500 Ninja is better than the Suzuki GS500

but a much better bike for a little more money would be either the Yamaha FZ6, and the Suzuki SV650

I have seen Yamaha dealers discount new FZ6's for as low as $5499, and the SV650 's for $5699

You won't ever get bored with the FZ6, its sooo fast you'll be wearing adult diapers

  3. You shouldn't get bored with any 500, unless you're a speed freak.  Have you looked at the Suzuki GS 500F?  I think those look better than the Ninja 500, and they're about the same price.

  4. well for 5k theres a pretty slim range but i would look at something like the Suzuki SV650S or the suzuki gsxr 750 they arent the biggest bikes out there and they arent any whimpy 250 either. i dont see why you shouldnt consider the kawasaki either. Kawasaki makes nice bikes and to tell you the truth you will get bored of any bike after a period of time.  for your first bike these would make a good choice though. your a tall guy, so you wont have any trouble reaching the ground..and as far as weight goes you should be perfectly fine, but if need be the suspension on most bikes can be adjusted for your weight.

hope i helped you out with this..if not i apologize

  5. The Ninja 500R is plenty of bike for your first bike.  You will not have a problem with the bike with your weight.  The only other option out there that I might suggest would be the Ninja 650R.  This is also a V-Twin bike but has 13 more horsepower than the 500R.  Really, the biggest difference, the looks are way better on the 650.  You can find a good used one that is only a year or 2 old with low miles for under $5,000.  The one thing you don't want to do is get into a inline 4 cylinder motorcycle.
