Question about Ohio Food Stamps?

It says to qualify for food stamps you have to be a working individual, or in a work program..What if you are married, the husband works but you don't, and you have no kids. Would they consider just the working person, or both of us as one?

If your husband works they are going to take his income into account the fact that you do not have children will make it harder for you

They will not consider you working just because he works if working or being in a work program is a requirement then you should do it because as far as they can see you will have no excuse

it's not like you stuck home with kids and cannot afford childcare

you are able-bodied.

Funny thing is if you both have jobs and no children you still most likely will not qualify.

The rule you are referring to is called the ABAWD rule or Able Bodied Without Dependents. The rule requires EACH adult to work or meet a work exemption. Each adult that is able to work can get food stamps for 3 months every three years unless that person is working at least 20 hours per week or exempt from the work rule. Taking your situation right now if you can't get a job your best bet would be to go to school full time BUT you would then need to meet the student exemptions and the best way to do that would be to get approved for federal work study and just work at the school. If you are disabled you are not an ABAWD and also do not need to meet the student work requirements.

From what you stated, since you have no children and are unemployed, you will be elegible for a maximum of 3 months of food stamp benefits in a 3 year period.
