I know that some people glue or tape there shelties ears to get them to tip, I was just wondering, if I do no do this, will my shelties ears end up being straight up? Or do some naturally tip anyways?

Thank You : )

Also:

Puppy shots are 8 wks, 12 wks and 16 wks? And rabies is at 16 wks as well?

  1. Depends on the dog. I never taped my Sheltie's ears, and one stands straight and one tips. Either way, it's adorable.

I'm drawing a blank on the shots thing.

  2. Some sheltie ears will naturally tip, others will stay upright.  If you are not planning to show the dog in conformation, then it really doesn't matter if they have what are called 'prick ears' - ears that stand upright.  They are still a loveable dog.

It's been a while since I've had a puppy, but I do believe your age is correct for their shots - your vet can confirm this.

  3. Couldn't tell ya on the ears....I have honestly never heard of taping a sheltie's ears before.  Hmmm.

Yup, shots for distemper at 8, 12, & 16 weeks.  Rabies at 16 weeks.  Lyme and Bordatella will depend on your location and where you take your dog.

  4. Some tip naturally and in an ideal world, breeders would adhere to the standard and breed for naturally breaking ears. Since they don't, many just take artificial shortcuts and weight, glue or tape the ears to get the desired break. Shelteis aren't the only breed that does this. Aussies, Terriers, Bulldogs, German Shepherds and so on are glued or braced to get a button, rose or prick ear set.
