Where does a recent college grad live in los angeles who isnt making too much money to start out? Surely there has to be a place that isnt too slummy but is also affordable (this far all i am finding are rents for 1-2 bedroom apartments 2 grand and up in all of the sorta nice to nice neighborhoods) where and what neighborhoods should i look?

  1. Venice, Playa Del Rey, Culver City

  2. You have to look for a studio or efficiency (one room with kitchenette and bath).  Pasadena (south of Colorado Blvd only!), Glendale (north of Colorado Blvd only!), parts of Burbank, Studio City, and the Valley off the 405 area.  Avoid Hollywood, North Hollywood, Eagle Rock, etc.

And pay attention to where you are looking for apt ads!  LA Times.  Skip the apartment websites -- only large costly complexes can afford their fees.  Craigslist can be super, but you had better be very savvy, watch out for scams, and know how to protect yourself -- among the gems are the cons, the criminals, etc.  As a recent grad, you are probably too naive and are perceived as a prime target.
